Women workers
At Community, we are proud to be a collective voice for women workers across the UK and campaign on issues that directly impact them. Our Equalities team are committed to this cause and fight to maintain and extend vital rights and policy across all UK workplaces that benefit women everywhere.
Women began joining trade unions in 1874, and extraordinary progress has been made for women in the workplace since then with the introduction of the Sex Discrimination Act 1975 and the Equal Pay Act 1970. Despite these welcome changes, barriers and inequalities still remain with unequal pay, discrimination, sexual harassment and a lower likelihood of promotion being an unfortunate reality for too many women.
It is our mission to fight against prejudice and discrimination, and to ensure that employers and Community Reps play a role in empowering women workers to flourish in their careers.
