The charter outlines framework for the adoption of responsible AI use in the workplace and forms part of a wider national campaign highlighting the need to empower and support workers with the AI skills they require both now and in the future.
Zurich signed the charter at its London office on Monday in an event attended by a number of dignitaries including Labour MP Callum Anderson and Deputy Mayor for Business Howard Dawber.
A screening of Community’s Fair Future for Finance campaign video drew attention to the opportunities and responsibilities associated with the increased use of AI in financial services.
In a speech, Community Assistant General Secretary Alasdair McDiarmid said:
“We’re delighted that Zurich has become the first signatory to the charter today and we are confident that other leading finance sector businesses will soon be following suit.
“It’s a great example of employers and trade unions working together with an understanding that what is good for workers is also what is good for business.”
Steve Collinson, Chief HR and Sustainability Officer at Zurich UK, said:
“With a fast pace of change and so much being openly discussed, today’s launch really matters.
“At Zurich we’re very proud to be Community’s first signatory for its responsible charter for AI in the financial services and I think it’s drawn new links with what we’re trying to do about encouraging the responsible innovation of technology.”
In signing the charter, Zurich has committed to:
- Using AI responsibly, ethically and transparently
- Looking to make AI training and retraining sessions available during working hours
- Taking steps to safeguard against intrusive monitoring and practices that impinge upon workplace rights
- Engaging with the Government, unions and civil societies on the use of new AI technologies in the workplace
- Considering the environmental and social impact of AI systems
