Supporting our members in the justice and custodial sector

At Community, we believe in continually improving how we support and advocate for our members. To do this, we regularly provide our members with opportunities for feedback so we can hear then act upon their views.

I have been analysing viewpoints and retention from our members across the Justice and Custodial Sector, working with key stakeholders such as Branch Secretaries, local Reps and employers in order to identify our current ways of doing things and map these against future intentions.

From this, I have undertaken an information gathering exercise amongst former members from the Justice and Custodial Sector to learn more about why they chose to leave the sector, understand if there are any commons themes and use this information to work with employers to improve conditions for our members.

We will also be working with present members from the Justice and Custodial Sector to understand any issues they are currently facing, then using this information to work with employers as well as sharing our findings with Community’s Justice Sector Committee, Members of Parliament and the Secretary of State for Justice.
