Community is the union for the justice and custodial sector, representing thousands of members whose work is vital to the UK justice system, and to public safety.
We understand the unique working environment, and the challenges and opportunities that it presents to the workforce. Our members work for a range of companies and organisations in the sector, including Serco, Sodexo, G4S, Mitie, Capita EMS and Catch 22. We also represent workers at:
- Private prisons
- Secure immigration centres
- Young offender institutions
- Secure training centres
- Courts & prisoner escorting
- Electronic monitoring services
- Overseas escort services
Our specialist justice and custodial officers, trained representatives and regional teams are all dedicated to fighting for you and your sector, having decades of experience in supporting and representing justice and custodial service workers. Workers in the sector often face environments of considerable risk, frequently resulting in situations that represent a risk to their health and safety.
Promoting and protecting the health, safety and wellbeing of our members is of the utmost importance. That’s why we’re running our Keep Us Safe campaign to raise awareness of the abuse that justice and custodial sector workers face and to ensure that everyone working in the sector can go to work free from threats or fear of assault. Find out more about the campaign here.
We also have a justice and custodial sector committee who are working together to tackle the issues faced by workers in the justice and custodial sector. You can learn more about them here.
