Community welcomes new government’s signal of intent for dentistry

Community, which represents dental nurses across the country, has welcomed the prospect of greater collaboration with the UK Government following the new Health Secretary’s meeting with the British Dental Association yesterday to discuss Dental Contract Reform.

Celie Brookes, Lead Dental Nurse Activist at Community, said:

“Over the last 14 years, government has turned a blind eye to many of the pressing challenges facing the dentistry sector, with patients and staff suffering as a result. We welcome the immediate priority the new UK Labour Government has given to fixing longstanding issues in the sector, and we hope that this signals a new era of constructive collaboration between representatives from the whole dental team and the Department of Health.

“As the leading union for dental nurses, Community looks forward to engaging with the government to address the issues our members face.”

Tiffany Gillies, Assistant Director of Operations at Community, said:

“For too long there has been a lack of recognition and reward for the vital role that dental nurses perform.

“With Community in their corner, dental nurses now have a strong collective voice to champion their cause nationally – including with a Labour government which has demonstrated this week that it is willing to listen to voices from the sector.

“We’d urge all dental nurses who are looking for assistance and representation at work to join Community today. Together, we have an opportunity to work for better future for dentistry.”

Together with our dental nurse members, we are fighting to secure better pay, conditions, protections, and recognition for the work you do, and we want you to join us. Whatever your income or support needs, our rates will work for you, with membership starting from £7.13 per month. You can find our full list of subscriptions here.
