Community calls for reforms to early years inspections

Responding to a new survey from the Early Years Alliance which found that Ofsted inspections are the main regular cause of stress for early years providers, Helen Osgood, Community’s National Officer for Education and Early Years, said:

“It is not acceptable that the inspection system – which should be about supporting settings – has become an unbearable burden that increases workload and stress.

“There needs to be more understanding by inspectors of the early years and the workforce pressures settings are under.

“Community is calling for the entire inspection system to be reformed, because we believe that, in its current form, it is not fit for purpose.

“We want an end to single word judgements. They are unhelpful and do not give the whole picture, and potentially unfairly tarnish the reputation of a setting and those who work there.

“We will continue to work with the government and the inspectorate to achieve these goals.”
