Action on pay

Throughout coronavirus, teachers and support staff colleagues, worked selflessly to meet the needs of the children across the nation’s schools.  Now, in the midst of one the worst economic crises we have experienced in decades recommendations have been made to increase teacher pay by just 5% on average, despite our evidence showing that a significant rise of at least 10% was necessary in order to remain in line with inflation.  Support staff – including our TAs, office staff and site staff members – have been recommended a £1,925 pay rise, but this too is below inflation for many.

At the time of writing, inflation (CPI) is running at 10.1%, and yet teachers and school leaders are only being offered half of this and support staff scarcely any more.  Put simply, your salary is now worth less than it was 12 months ago, and the indications are that the situation will only get worse.

MPs and our elected leaders have a lot of power in their hands and can make changes and influence decisions, but only if they are aware of the problem.  Take action and write to your MP and local councillors, now:
