Zurich and Community working together

At Community and Zurich, we both describe our approach as a partnership. It’s a true partnership where the interests of members and the interests of the organisation are both equally heard, respected and taken account of when making decisions.

It’s important to say that when we talk about partnership it doesn’t mean that we always agree or that we always have to agree. I often describe Community as the critical friend of Zurich – they push and challenge around the things we want to do, they help to influence our policy. Whilst we may not always agree, we always reach an outcome that is respectful and understanding of both positions and that takes account of everybody’s views.

The reason that the partnership works between us so well is because of the approach that the union take. They truly represent their members, the voice of their members and their views.

They really listen and then they share those views with us. There are some great examples of where working in partnership has led to better outcomes for members of Community and Zurich too. This includes consultation, particularly around things like the change programmes we underwent as an organisation. In many cases and in demonstrable ways, Community’s participation in those consultations and the change programmes more widely, influenced the outcome of our proposals for the better.

We’re a better place to work – a better company and we achieve better outcomes because of our partnership with Community.
