Ending veteran homelessness
In the UK today, there are around 271,000 people without a home.
Homelessness comes in many different forms; some people are sleeping rough on the streets while others may be staying on friends’ sofas or staying in a hostel long-term. Of those without a home, up to 4,000 are men and women who served this country as a member of our armed forces, only to return and be left without a home.
At Community, we’re passionate about ending veteran homelessness because we believe that every person has the right to a place they can call home, and we need your help. Homeless veterans are unique for several reasons, including:
- Finding it difficult to engage with and trust people with no military background.
- Feeling they’re unable to share their unique experiences, and situations that only members of the armed forces encounter.
- Being excluded from normal housing schemes or provisions because their behaviour is atypical.
