We, the undersigned employees of the NSPCC are writing to formally express our concern and strong opposition to the proposed (or ongoing) pay freeze.
While we understand that organizations sometimes face financial challenges, we believe that a pay freeze is not a fair or sustainable solution. Our work has continued to be essential to the success of this company, and many of us have gone above and beyond our responsibilities, especially during difficult periods.
A pay freeze will have the following negative impacts:
- Erosion of Employee Morale: Freezing pay signals that our hard work and commitment are not being recognised or valued.
- Increased Turnover: Talented employees may seek better opportunities elsewhere, which can ultimately cost the company more in recruitment and training.
- Rising Cost of Living: With inflation and higher living expenses, a pay freeze effectively results in a pay cut.
- Workforce Inequity: Employees at lower salary levels are disproportionately impacted by a freeze, worsening income inequality.
We urge leadership to consider alternative cost-saving measures that do not place the financial burden solely on the workforce. This may include reevaluating executive compensation, cutting non-essential spending, or implementing tiered or partial adjustments rather than a full freeze.
We demand that leadership consider more just and responsible alternatives to a pay freeze— options that reflect the value of the workforce and protect the long-term health of the organisation. Ignoring the real and lasting impacts of this decision will only deepen dissatisfaction and jeopardise morale, retention, and productivity. We expect transparent negotiation and decisive action to ensure a fair resolution.
Furthermore, we are seeking a firm commitment that this pay pause will not be repeated in the next financial year, and that any future pay increase will not be accompanied by a restructure that could negatively impact roles or job security.
Therefore, we are seeking an urgent meeting to discuss the above within the next two weeks.
