Update your email to ensure you’re eligible to vote in future ballots

An expected major shift coming to how online voting works for industrial ballots, and if you use a work email address for your Community account, you need to act now to protect your right to vote.

New regulations, expected to come into effect from August 2026, will officially change the rules around electronic union ballots. Under these new regulations, union members will no longer be permitted to receive ballot information or cast votes through an email address provided, controlled or accessible by employers.

Why are these changes to electronic balloting happening?

Work email addresses can be monitored by employers, meaning they are not private. The new laws are designed to ensure total privacy, independence and security for union members during electronic ballots.

To ensure your voice is still heard in future ballots, your contact information must be entirely separate from your workplace.

What you need to do today

Don’t risk being locked out of having your say in future ballots. Updating your details only takes two minutes. Simply log into your online Community account, head to the “Update my details” section, and replace your work email with a personal one (like Gmail, Outlook or Yahoo). It’s that simple.
