Update – Relate

Responding to news of job losses at counselling charity Relate, David Weeks, Community’s lead officer for the Third Sector, said:

“These job losses have come as a real shock to our members at Relate, and there is no doubt at all that there will be a huge impact on the charity’s operations – including for staff who remain in post and the service users they support.

“While there is a wider context here in terms of the financial pressures facing the charity sector as a whole, there is simply no excuse for the way Relate have treated long-serving and dedicated staff. The lack of proper consultation, notice and redundancy payments would be shameful from any employer, let alone one which espouses the value of building relationships and supporting others.

“We will be supporting all of our members at Relate who have been impacted by these announcements, as well as remaining staff members who are now facing huge uncertainty. This is a workforce which expected much more from their employer, and deserves much better.”
