From this month, teachers across England will receive a full 4% pay rise across all points and allowances.
The pay rise agreed by the Labour government follows the latest recommendation from the School Teachers’ Review Body (STRB), which received a detailed evidence submission from Community.
Community’s National Secretary for Education and Early Years, Helen Osgood, said:
“It is so important that we have the opportunity to share evidence of the lived-experiences of our members who work so hard, day-in, day-out to teach and inspire children.
“The discussions we have with the STRB, and the recommendations they make to the government are the only real way that pay and conditions improve.
“This government has committed to recruiting 6,500 new teachers by the end of this parliament and we fully support this ambition. Improved pay and conditions will help to achieve this target.
“The 4% uplift to teacher salaries paid from the beginning of this month is a step in the right direction. But without an above-inflation pay increase, and measures to address workload, the drain of talent and experience from the teaching profession will continue, and schools will be unable to recruit new teachers to fill the ever-increasing number of vacancies.”
