We are the collective voice of the self-employed. We bring together self-employed and freelance workers so we have a strong voice to lobby for much needed changes like an extension of workers rights to protect the self-employed while maintaining that freedom and flexibility you enjoy. We’re determined to support our self-employed members through this difficult period and as we enter the recovery.
Following our campaigning and lobbying, the Self-Employment Income Support Scheme (SEISS) has been extended through to September 2021.Here’s everything you need to know.
When will I be able to apply?
Claims for the fourth SEISS grant have now closed. The last date for making a claim for the fourth grant was 1 June 2021. The online claims service for the fifth grant will be available from late July 2021.
How much will it be worth?
Phase 5 will open in July and cover the period from May to September. Unlike previous grants that just relied on self-employment income being hit by COVID, the amount will be according to the drop in income from year to year. If it has reduced 30% or more, then you’ll receive 80% of trading profit for three months up to a total grant of £7,500. If it’s reduced less than 30%, then you’ll receive 30% of trading profit up to a total grant of £2,850. The drop will be based on income calculations from the year to April 2020 vs the year to April 2021. Note that while the grant is based on profit, the percentage is based on a fall in income.
Do I need to have received support before?
No. To be eligible for the grant you must be a self-employed individual or a member of a partnership, and won’t need to have taken SEISS support in the earlier rounds of the SEISS.
How do I know if I’m eligible?
You may have heard that some self-employed people have been excluded from receiving support. To find out if you are eligible, click here.
How do I apply?
The online claims service for the fifth grant will be available from late July 2021. If you’re eligible based on your tax returns, HMRC will contact you in mid-July 2021 to give you a date that you can make your claim from.
