Reacting to the launch of the National Wealth Fund today, Community Assistant General Secretary Alasdair McDiarmid said:
“Labour stood on a platform of change and we’re already seeing that change within the first week of the new Government.
“The establishment of a National Wealth Fund is a landmark moment for British manufacturing, and shows the ambition Labour has for our steel industry.
“The new £3bn in investment will help support key strategic sites and unlock the swift growth of new technologies in the sector.
“Finally with a Labour Government we’re seeing the ambition for our steel industry that’s been lacking over the past 14 years. We look forward to working with the Government to ensure that our steel industry is competitive on the international stage delivering for our members, our environment, and our economy.”
