Mitie recognition restores right to strike

Community has signed a recognition framework agreement with Mitie Care & Custody, covering our overseas escort members at Gatwick.

The new deal removes the previous ‘no strike’ agreement.

David Weeks, Community’s Regional Secretary for London and the South, said:

“We are delighted to have secured this agreement.

“We successfully argued that the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 does not apply to escorts as they are not prison officers.

“My thanks go to Branch Secretary Ashley Perham-Sims and his team for their valuable input.”

Interested in securing Community recognition?

Having a recognition agreement in place allows Community to bargain on behalf of employees on things like the annual pay award and terms and conditions. It can also make the union stronger in the workplace as union Reps are entitled to time off to complete their duties.
