Community formally launched our Early Years Charter in Scotland with an engagement event at Holyrood last week. MSPs met with Community officials, NEC members and reps to discuss and show support for the charter, which calls for proper recognition and reward for the early years workforce.
Community’s Director of Operations and National Officer for Education and Early Years, Helen Osgood, said:
“It was great to see so many MSPs attending our Early Years Charter engagement event in the Scottish Parliament. There is a recruitment and retention crisis in the early years workforce across the UK, including in Scotland.
“Our members in early years settings in Scotland deserve to feel valued and respected in their role, and have access to opportunities to develop their careers. As part of our Early Years Charter launch in Scotland, we want to see the Scottish Government take steps to increase funding for early years settings, improve wages for staff in the sector, and properly recognise the specialised work of early years staff and nannies – treating them as educators, not babysitters.”
