Concern of Omicron variant in education and early years

Following the Prime Minister’s announcement at 8pm on the 12th December 2021, Voice Community is concerned that schools, colleges and early years settings were not mentioned in his official statement, despite the Prime Minister labelling the current situation regarding the Omicron variant of COVID-19 an “emergency”.

We are already seeing schools and education settings in the position of needing to close due to staff absence issues. No significant additional measures have been introduced to protect the health and well-being of education staff or students.

Voice Community encourages everyone in education to take all relevant steps to ensure the safety of all – including reducing visitors to site to those only of an essential nature, ventilating rooms, enhanced cleaning and handwashing, applying social distancing measures where possible, and always wearing a face-covering.
