Community celebrates exam results day

SQA exam results for National 5, Higher, and Advanced Higher qualifications have been released today (Tuesday, August 5th) via post and digital methods for those who opted in.

Around 145,000 learners received their exam results realising the fruit of their own hard work and the work of dedicated teachers and support staff across Scotland who have encouraged, helped and cajoled learners through more than two million exam papers and 1.3 million items of coursework.

Data from SQA shows:

  • Pass rates across all three levels are up on last year

  • The attainment gap between candidates from the most and least deprived areas has reduced

  • Parts of Scotland are seeing disruption in the delivery of results certificates due to Storm Floris

Helen Osgood, Community’s National Officer for Education & Early Years said:

“Today is a day to celebrate the hard-earned achievements of learners in the qualifications today.  The future pathways that have opened up because of their hard work realised in today’s results mean that more students than ever can go on to further study and university.

“We must also take a moment to recognise the incredible contributions of our schools and all the staff without whom none of this would be possible.  To everyone involved, I say “Well Done!”

“This is not just about National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher awards. Almost 90,000 National Progression Awards (NPAs), National Certificates, Skills for Work, and SQA Awards have also been issued opening doors to careers, apprenticeships and other vocational learning.

“These are the last set of results to be overseen by SQA before it transitions into Qualifications Scotland in December.  Community hope that this new body, with more input from teachers and leaders, will drive improvements in the system and outcomes for learners.”
