A new chapter for Scottish Labour

We want to offer a massive congratulations to Anas Sarwar for being elected as leader of Scottish Labour.

We nominated Anas as we believed he was the right person to meet the many challenges Scottish Labour will have to face in the coming years. These challenges – poverty, job insecurity, structural racism, recovering from the pandemic and ongoing constitutional questions – and how we face them are what will define not just our generation but many more after that.

It is clear that Scottish Labour has a mountain to climb. Currently with only 23 MSPs and 1 MP and having made no progress in opinion polls, Scottish Labour has considerable work to do in convincing the country they are the correct people to lead them through this difficult period.

We hope that today will be the first page in a new chapter for Scottish Labour, and the beginning of a brighter future for the party and for Scotland.

Anas has been a member of Community for many years and has long supported Community members. We look forward to working with him as he leads the party.

We also want to pay tribute to Monica Lennon and her supporters for her energising campaign and the spirit in which she fought it with. We similarly look forward to working with Monica in the years ahead as we all work together to secure a better future.
