A message of solidarity

Community would this morning like to send out a statement of solidarity to all of our women members.

We recognise the immense pain and hurt that has been brought up as a result of the disappearance of Sarah Everard.

Nobody should feel unsafe in the streets. Nobody should feel that they are unable to walk home alone at night. There should be no climate of fear for women.

The question should never be asked what was the woman doing, wearing, or what time she chose to return home at. Instead we must always condemn the perpetrator for their actions, and work to change the culture that means women all too often don’t feel safe.

It is on each of us to create a better society, free of sexism and misogyny.

Sexism and misogyny are trade union issues. We will not rest until they are eradicated from workplaces and from wider society.
