Community member and Branch Secretary, Roxy Brzezinska, a Dental Nurse from Scotland, recently joined Community and other unions across the country at the STUC Women’s Conference, bringing her experience, and passion to the conversation about women at work.
The 98th Annual STUC Women’s Conference took place between Wednesday 29thand Thursday 30th October 2025 and the theme was “Women build bridges, not borders”. The conference was chaired by fellow Community member, Pearl Abernethy.
Roxy has worked as a Dental Nurse for many years and knows first-hand how demanding the role can be. From supporting patients and managing busy clinics to meeting GDC standards and keeping up with training, Dental Nurses juggle a lot, often without the recognition they deserve.
That’s why Roxy wanted to attend the conference:
“I’ve always been proud of what I do, but being part of Community’s delegation to the STUC Women’s Conference reminded me how powerful it is when women come together to share our stories. Dental Nurses have so much to say about what’s really happening in our workplaces, and it felt great to have that heard.”
Throughout the conference, Roxy took part in sessions on fair pay, flexible working and women’s health at work. She spoke with other union members about the challenges faced in healthcare and how unions like Community can push for change, not just for Dental Nurses, but for all women in frontline roles.
For Roxy, it was also a chance to connect with others who share the same goals: making work fairer, safer, and more supportive for everyone.
“The energy in the room was brilliant. You leave feeling encouraged and reminded that you’re not on your own; there are so many of us trying to make things better.”
Community is proud to have members like Roxy representing the union and speaking up for working women across Scotland.
