Our work is driven by our dedication to our members and the belief that trade unionism should not be confined to the workplace. We provide our members with representation, advice and support when they need it most and we campaign on their priorities, advocating for positive change in workplaces, in Westminster and beyond.
As a general union, we are open to all, with benefits like access to training, legal services and financial assistance. Our members do various jobs across a diverse array of sectors including steel, manufacturing, textiles, logistics, education, financial services, the justice and custodial sector, social care, dentistry, the third sector and the self-employed.
Community is proud to be a Labour Union
Community has been at the heart of the political arm of the labour movement since the beginning. Our founding unions helped to establish the Labour Party 126 years ago, and that partnership has grown stronger ever since. Our affiliation has shaped policy and delivered tangible benefits for our members. We have worked with this Labour Government to pass the Employment Rights Act 2025, the greatest uplift to workers’ rights in a generation, to improve the safety of staff working in dangerous environments and to bolster our industrial communities, including taking unprecedented action to save 3,000 jobs at British Steel.
This work would not have been possible without the support of our Community cohort of elected Labour representatives. We are proud to count many MSs, MSPs and Mayors as Community members, enjoy a vast network of Community local councillors and have a dedicated group of Community Union champions in Westminster with a parliamentary group of more than 85 MPs.
