Voice Community Cymru has welcomed the Welsh Government’s additional package of support for learners announced on 16 December 2021.
Senior Professional Officer / Uwch Swyddog Proffesional Cymru Urtha Felda said:
“Voice Community recognises the Welsh Government’s provision of two planning days on school returns in January as an essential mechanism to provide time for school’s to respond to an, as yet unknown, need.
“Currently many teachers and support staff are absent from school, creating pressures for all staff and raising challenges in delivering learning outcomes for learners.
“The additional package of support shows the willingness of the Welsh Government to respond to the needs of learners in exam years, and those returning after long absences, which Voice Community welcomes.
“For both actions Voice Community recognises that there is a reliance on the presence of teachers and other staff, which the impact of COVID-19 could compromise. Coupled with the known current shortage of supply teachers, it is difficult to see where the extra staff will come from to deliver the extra support described.”
