“We welcome the Prime Minister’s speech today, and in particular the ambition shown for the future of British Steel. The nationalisation of the business will provide much needed certainty for the workforce, and with the issue of ownership resolved there is now an opening for investment which can secure the site’s long-term future as a vital strategic asset for the UK.
“The message of last week’s bruising election results was clear: that the pace of change has not been fast enough. Today the Prime Minister has shown that the government is listening, and that it is determined to deliver on the public’s priorities without distraction or delay.”
