Port Talbot Retired Members Branch donates to Prostate Cymru

Port Talbot Retired Members Branch has donated £100 to Prostate Cymru, a charity supporting men with benign prostate disease and prostate cancer.

The branch has frequently donated to the charity and recently raised money for the organisation during its 2026 fun day.

Prostate Cymru has no national or government funding and relies on the kindness and generosity of its fundraisers and volunteers to fulfil its core aims.

Port Talbot Retired Members Branch Secretary John Tetsill said:

“The Port Talbot Retired Members Branch was very happy to make a donation of £100 to Prostate Cymru. It’s an important charity that has no national or government funding, meaning it relies very heavily on fundraising efforts.

“We’ve donated money to the charity a few times before and they’ve been coming to our annual fun day for a couple of years now. They also visited during one of our branch meetings to give health checks as prostate cancer is something that has affected quite a few of our members.

“I’ve been helping to run the Retired Members Branch for 10 years now. We’ve all been in the steel industry and the group was set up for people who miss the camaraderie that you get from a work setting. We meet every quarter to have a chat and then we try to raise money to help the local community in Port Talbot.”

Our retired branches can offer members the following:

• Access to local and national social activities, hybrid and accessible events, community fundraising initiatives, and opportunities for connection beyond formal union activity.
• Learning, training and education workshops covering everything from digital and financial skills, health and wellbeing sessions, and practical training on issues like wills and probate.
• Access to bespoke communication from the union, including regular newsletters.
