Ofsted: a better future is possible

On 4 July 2023, Community: the union for education professionals is holding a special free webinar on Ofsted and education and early years inspections, following the tragic death of head teacher Ruth Perry.

The event will:

  • give an update on what is happening with Ofsted in the light of recent tragic events;
  • update members on Community’s position on Ofsted, inspection, preparation etc; and
  • enable members to share their experiences of Ofsted.

We will also hold a couple of polls during the meeting to gather statistics on members’ experiences that we can use in our dealings with the inspectorate and government ministers.

Community:

  • has been calling for the inspection system to be reformed;
  • believes that inspection – in its current form – is not fit for purpose;
  • believes that inspection should work for the education and early years community and provide the necessary improvement advice;
  • wants to see an end to one-word outcomes;
  • believes that Ofsted should be supportive not punitive – inspections should be constructive not destructive; and
  • will continue to work with the government and the inspectorate to achieve these goals.
