New runway at Heathrow presents opportunity for steel

Community Assistant General Secretary Alasdair McDiarmid said:

“The addition of a new runway at Heathrow would bring significant economic benefits to the UK, and has the potential to provide a huge boost to our domestic steel industry and the many thousands of good jobs it supports both directly and through supply chains.

“Given that most estimates suggest a third runway would require almost 400,000 tonnes of steel, there is a generational opportunity for UK-based steel procurement here. This is precisely the sort of major infrastructure and construction project which can and should be taking advantage of the world-class steel we produce here in Britain.”
