New recognition agreement at Nesta!

Community is pleased to announce that we have signed a recognition agreement with Nesta, the UK’s innovation agency for social good.

Nesta was founded in 1998 and was the first ever publicly supported national endowment in the UK. They aim to tackle society’s biggest challenges, and as part of their current ten-year strategy they are focusing on childhood inequality, public health and a sustainable economy.

Nesta currently employs around 250 people, and we are delighted to welcome them into the Community family.

The recognition agreement will now allow Community to negotiate on the annual pay award, holidays and hours as well as providing assistance and services to their members.  The agreement also allows consultation on a wide range of additional issues and contains a firm commitment to maintain constructive and effective relationships between union and employer.

Adrian Axtell, National Officer at Community, says:

“I am delighted that we have reached a voluntary agreement with Nesta, one that will give Community members a voice and strengthen our partnership. Nesta have been working to make our society a better place for decades, and we look forward to working with them in a number of areas that will benefit both the organisation and members alike.”

Community members at Nesta are pleased that, following a workplace vote in which a majority who voted were in favour of union recognition, Nesta has agreed to voluntarily recognise Community and has committed to continue to work with Community in a positive and constructive way.

Having a recognition agreement allows Community to bargain on behalf of employees on things like the annual pay award and terms and conditions. It can also make the union stronger in the workplace as union Reps would be entitled to time off to complete their duties.
