Today, Welsh Labour Leader Vaughan Gething, as well as Johnny Reynolds MP, and Stephen Kinnock MP, Jessica Morden MP, Ruth Jones MP, Nia Griffith MP, Carolyn Harris MP, David Rees MS and Jeremy Miles MS met with Community members at the Tata Steel Port Talbot site to discuss how a Labour Government would bring about the change that our steel industry and communities need.
Roy Rickhuss CBE General Secretary of Community Union the steelworkers’ union said:
“Jonny Reynolds is absolutely right to call on Tata not to take irreversible decisions before an election, and to engage with Labour and the unions to consider alternatives to protect jobs.
Throughout our steel industry’s history there has been one party that has stood with us and our members and that’s the Labour Party. Never has that been more evident than now.
While other parties have shirked away from the challenges facing our industry like rising energy costs, lack of investment, and the off shoring of UK carbon, Labour is stepping up.
Labour’s pledge of £3 billion for our steel industry and Johnny Reynold’s meeting with our members today demonstrates that Labour has a bold vision for our steel industry, one that will place the UK economy and workers at its heart.
Our steel industry needs change, our country needs change, and a Labour Government will be that change.”
