Join our campaign fund

Community has a long-standing political campaign fund that gives you, our members, a political voice as well as an industrial one so we can fight for the changes you need.

This means that we can campaign for members in the workplace, and campaign politically on the issues that matter to our members. It allows us to fight for Community members wherever power lies – from council chambers to our Parliaments.

From fighting for our steel industry, to standing up for the safety of our members in the justice sector, from pensions policy to sick pay – our campaign fund helps us win.

With many issues affecting Community members that can be solved politically, from the cost-of-living crisis to attacks on workers’ rights, we believe that having our campaign fund is more important than ever. Now more than ever, we need to use all our industrial and political means to succeed for our members.

We can only continue this vital work through the funding that our campaign fund provides, and we need as many members to join and be part of it. Make sure you opt-in to join and be part of our campaign fund so Community can continue to be your campaigning voice at work.

How do I opt in?

What have our campaigns achieved?

Thanks to Community’s campaign fund, we have been able to:

  • Ensure that the voices and priorities of Community members are heard in Westminster and Whitehall, from the Senedd to Holyrood and in council chambers across the UK.
  • Take the steel industry to the corridors of power to lobby politicians and campaign for a level playing field for UK manufacturing.
  • Campaign to keep our members safe at work, free from assault, free from abuse
  • Demand sick pay for all workers, including the self-employed.
  • Help the National League of the Blind and Disabled to campaign for improvements in the working rights of disabled workers.
  • Take the government to an international court when our members lost their pensions, and win £12 billion guarantee for the pensions of all redundant workers and set up the ‘Pension Protection Fund’ to protect workers’ pensions across the country for long into the future.
  • Become the first union to fight fire and rehire when Clarks attempted to sack our members and re-hire them on poorer terms and conditions. Now we are campaigning to change the law to ban it all together.
  • Fight the scourge of racism and discrimination in society, through supporting campaigns that combat hatred and build a better society for all.
  • Support the right of those experiencing the menopause to have the rights and protections they deserve in the workplace.

Campaigning together is an important part of our Community ethos. We fight for a better working world for all our members at work. Without our campaign fund, we will be less effective, less influential, and less likely to win the campaigns our members need.

Campaign Fund key facts

✔️ No member has to pay into the campaign fund if they don’t want to.

✔️ 98% of members who voted in our campaign fund ballot in February 2024 voted to keep our fund.

✔️ Our campaign fund does not affect your union subscription.

✔️ Every 10 years, we have to hold a ballot to maintain our campaign fund because Margaret Thatcher’s Conservative Government in 1984 tried to stop trade union members having a political voice.
