Assistant General Secretary of Community, John Paul McHugh, leaves the union today after fifteen years of dedicated service to our union.
John Paul spent his early career as a mechanical fitter before joining Community in 2007 via the TUC’s organising academy. Throughout his time with us, he held multiple roles with varied responsibilities. In each role, standing up for and securing the best deal for Community members has always been his priority.
Roy Rickhuss CBE, General Secretary of Community, said:
“Over John Paul’s tenure he has made an exceptional contribution to the development of Community. He has been instrumental to the growth of the union and a driving force behind so many outstanding campaigns and events. John Paul’s political influence and tenacity are well known and considerable, and he is widely respected across the union and by our external friends and stakeholders.
I would like to place on record my personal thanks to John Paul, for the support he has given me throughout my tenure as General Secretary. John Paul is a force of nature and Community to his core, and he leaves with my gratitude and best wishes for the future.”
The whole of Community wishes John Paul well in his future endeavours.
