In memoriam of Bernard Rooney

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our friend and colleague Bernard Rooney.

Bernard became a member of Community’s predecessor union, the ISTC when in the steelworks he joined the National Union of Blastfurnacemen. Following this, he took a central role in the union working as an organiser and senior organiser in the North East, Yorkshire, Midlands and London regions. He also spent time working in our head office as part of the central functions of the union.

Through his many years working at Community and long after his retirement, Bernard was the font of all knowledge about our union’s proud history.

Our thoughts are with Bernard’s family at this time. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and worked with him.
