Responding to new MOJ statistics on electronic monitoring and tagging, Community’s National Secretary for Justice and Custodial Gavin Miller, said:
“It is incredibly important for inefficiencies in the electronic tagging system to be ironed out as the scheme is expanded across England and Wales.
“If it is to ease pressure on prisons, the technology needs to be fully functioning for staff use. The company operating the tagging scheme inherited a system that was significantly outdated. This is being replaced, but it is very much overdue.”
“The new Justice Secretary needs to provide a clear route out of the overcrowding crisis, one which prioritises public safety and benefits custodial staff, who are facing significant pressure.”
