Connecting with our members at AA Newcastle

What a brilliant day we had connecting with our dedicated members at the AA in Newcastle. Our recent on-site visit was a huge success, drawing a fantastic crowd of both members and non-members who wanted to learn more about the future of work, upskilling and the invaluable benefits of being a Community member.

The main focus of our visit was to champion our extensive Community Learn offer, as well as highlight the importance of digital skills at the AA. It was inspiring to see over eighty colleagues stop by our stall, eager to learn more about how Community can support their professional development.

We discussed a multitude of learning opportunities available through Community membership, including:

  • Career advancement: Exploring opportunities to further their current career within the AA or transition into new roles.
  • Mentoring and coaching: Becoming a mentor or coach to support colleagues and build leadership skills.
  • Health and wellbeing: Studying courses focused on mental health awareness and support.
  • Our learn offer: We were thrilled to highlight over 600 additional training opportunities, available to all members as part of their Community membership.

These learning opportunities are part of our commitment to ensuring our members are equipped with the skills they need to thrive in this modern world of work.

On-site engagement and union support

Community Representatives, Bev Stafford and Sean Mallenby were instrumental in the day’s success. They were on hand to discuss all aspects of Community membership and ensuring that members and non-members alike were up-to-date with the latest union news across the AA.

Joining Bev and Sean were Paul Warren, National Secretary for the Logistics Sector, offering his support and encouragement to the team and members. As well as Hiba Bayoumi, Project Coordinator, who provided specialised insights on Community’s learning and training package.

Further supporting the on-site team and delivering solutions were AA Regional Secretaries, Deb Wood and Paul Thomas, who ensured every question was answered and helped keep energy levels high (by even handing out the sweets!).

Building our AA community and growing our union

Beyond our learning offer, it was a great chance to build community and highlight the support we offer to our colleagues at the AA.

Over 40 people took advantage of our very popular rainbow equality lanyards, demonstrating a strong commitment to equality and inclusion at the AA. Furthermore, many non-members joined, or took away application forms, keen to join our ever-growing membership at the AA.

Events like this are a truly invaluable opportunity to connect with both members and non-members to discuss the support that Community provides. No questions were left unanswered, and everyone who stopped by the stall walked away with either an application form or some Community merchandise!
