Community welcomes Labour’s first budget

After 800 years of male predecessors, the first ever budget from a Female Chancellor was always set to be historic. But after 14 years of Conservative government, 7 different Tory Chancellors and over a decade of failed economic policies, Chancellor Rachel Reeves had a huge challenge to being the process to rebuild Britain.

Today, we saw the difference a Labour government can make for our members and for working people across the UK. From investing in infrastructure, health and education to making work pay while protecting payslips, it is clear that the Government have started the work to change Britain.

Community General Secretary, Roy Rickhuss said:

“After 14 years of a government which has consistently overlooked the needs of our members, it is nice to have a government that once again prioritises the needs of working people.

“Whether it’s creation of a National Wealth Fund, supporting our manufacturing and heavy industries; investment to expand prison places and recruit thousands of new prison and probation staff; or funding to rebuild our schools, expand government funded childcare, and roll-out universal breakfast clubs to give every child the best possible start in life.

“This budget takes the firsts steps to deliver the change our members desperately need.”
