Responding to the Chancellor of the Exchequer’s speech on infrastructure investment today, Community General Secretary Roy Rickhuss CBE:
“The framework for a generational investment in infrastructure laid out by the Chancellor today showed a Labour government that is committed to economic growth. The benefits of this will be felt by our members across different sectors of the workforce and right across the UK.
“We also warmly welcome the Chancellor’s support for a third runway at Heathrow, which represents a huge opportunity for our domestic steel sector. As we have emphasised before, UK steel sites have the experience and capacity to supply the hundreds of thousands of tonnes of high-quality steel the project will require. With the launch of a national steel strategy expected over the coming months, it’s absolutely vital that we seize this huge procurement opportunity for UK steel, and give a vote of confidence to this crucial foundational industry and the thousands of dedicated and skilled workers it employs right across the UK.”
