Community has announced that it will be nominating Bridget Phillipson MP for Deputy Leader of the Labour Party.
Community Assistant General Secretary Alasdair McDiarmid said:
“Following a unanimous decision by our NEC, Community is pleased to endorse Bridget Phillipson for Deputy Leader of the Labour Party.
“As she demonstrated in her speech at TUC Congress, Bridget is passionate about building a better country for working people, including through delivering the Employment Rights Bill in full. Our members in the Education and Early Years sector can attest to the strong and constructive relationship she has forged with trade union partners as Secretary of State, and her unwavering commitment to securing better outcomes for education professionals and the children and young people they support.
“As well as being a highly competent and effective member of the government, Bridget is also an engaging and persuasive campaigner. This will be a vital asset ahead of crucial elections for the Senedd, Holyrood and English councils in 2026.
“Labour needs to deliver a convincing vision for what it can deliver for working people across the nations and regions of the UK. We believe that Bridget Phillipson is the right person to rise to this challenge, and we would encourage our members and Labour Party members to give her their backing.”
Bridget Phillipson MP said:
“I am delighted and proud to have the backing of Community to be Labour’s Deputy Leader.
“Our country relies on the contribution of Community members – from steelworkers to our dedicated school workforce.
“Community members know that we need a united Labour that can beat Reform, not the division that saw us mired in Opposition — together we’re going to deliver the change that voters want to see and secure a second Labour term.”
