Commenting on news reports that the School Teachers’ Review Body (STRB) will recommend a 6.5 per cent salary increase for teachers in England, National Officer Helen Osgood said:
“Community was pleasantly surprised by the news of a possible recommendation of a 6.5 per cent pay rise in the forthcoming STRB report.
“Although the uplift is substantially short of what is needed, it is also significantly higher than that presented by the Department for Education (DfE) and shows that the Review Body is taking the recruitment and retention crisis seriously.
“We will wait until the report and the Department’s response are published by the DfE before putting this to our members.
“However, we need to see a significant uplift that is fully funded by the government so that schools do not have to choose between passing on the pay rise or making staff redundant.
“This is not a time for complacency.”
