Community has welcomed the government’s new commitment to increasing the number of children who are ready for school.
Current estimates suggest that two-thirds of children are school-ready when they reach primary school. As part of its newly-announced plan for change, the Labour government intends to increase this proportion to three quarters of all children through targeted investment in the early years.
Helen Osgood, Community’s Director of Operations and National Officer for Education and Early Years, said:
“As a union which has long campaigned for greater investment and earlier intervention in early years education, we welcome this announcement and the Labour government’s ambitious signal of intent. The reforms the government are proposing will make a massive difference to children’s experiences as they progress through the education system.
“Community stands ready to work with the Department for Education and our members in schools to deliver these policies for children across the country – all of whom deserve the very best start in life.”
