Celebrating the launch of Skills England

At Community, we are delighted with the launch of Skills England, an essential initiative aimed at enhancing the skills and qualifications of workers across England.

Dougie Fairbairn, NEC member for the Midlands said:

“This couldn’t have come at a more critical time, as it addresses the significant skills gap left by the previous Tory government’s Brexit and their decision to close the Union Learning Fund.”

Brexit has had a profound impact on the UK’s workforce and skills landscape. The departure from the European Union has led to a range of economic uncertainty and reductions in EU labour supply, leaving a notable skills gap across the UK.

The end of the Union Learning Fund (ULF) England in April 2020 was a considerable setback, removing a key resource for workplace skills development. With the launch of Skills England, we are seeing a renewed commitment to making skill development more inclusive and accessible for everyone.

Tiffany Gillies, Assistant Director of Operations said:

“We look forward to working with the Secretary of State for Education, Bridget Phillipson and the Chair of Skills England to promote learning  and drive economic progress.

“Community believes in the power of lifelong learning which helps to open new doors for our members. Working with Skills England, as well as continuing to work with the devolved governments we will create customised training programs tailored to the specific needs of our members.”
