Wellbeing on the Move
The logistics, road transport and warehousing sector workforce keeps the UK moving. Were it not for the daily hard work of lorry, truck and delivery drivers; contact centre workers; roadside patrols and technicians; warehouse workers, assistants and operatives; fleet and freight controllers and a wide range of vital workers across this hugely varied sector, our economy would stagnate, and consumers would miss out on essential goods and services.
This crucial but challenging workload can however take its toll on staff who often feel overworked and undervalued. Long, anti-social shifts and a lack of appropriate support in workplaces – from training opportunities through to accessible mental health support – can push staff out of the sector. This means that skills and experience are being lost, opportunities for progression are being side-lined, and the health and wellbeing of workers is all too often not being prioritised as it should be.
Here at Community, we are not prepared to accept this as the norm, or an inevitability of work in a pressurised sector. Our Wellbeing on the Move campaign calls on employers across the sector to take steps to improve the wellbeing of their workers, focusing on vital issues like working hours, rest breaks and access to workplace training and health and wellbeing resources.
Let’s give our logistics workforce the backing and support they deserve!
