The Community team in the South West recently had the pleasure of visiting the Weymouth Area Development Trust (WADT), a valued member of our In Your Community project and a previous recipient of support from the Regional Charity Fund.
The visit was an opportunity to see first-hand the incredible progress that has been made over the past year, and the impact that can be achieved when Community funding supports local ambition.
At the heart of the WADT’s work is a powerful transformation story. A once-derelict supported accommodation property has now been reimagined into a bright, vibrant and welcoming co-working space that now serves as a hub for local enterprise and collaboration. When walking through this space, it’s clear that this is much more than just a physical redevelopment, it represents renewed energy, opportunity, and belief in the future of Weymouth.
The WADT’s mission is both simple and inspiring, to bring people and organisations together to create a brighter future for the town. By supporting employment opportunities and encouraging positive community action, they are building an environment where ideas, individuals, and small businesses can thrive. The co-working space plays a central role in this vision, offering a place where entrepreneurs, community groups, and local initiatives can connect and grow.
Community is proud to have supported this journey through our Regional Charity Fund and to continue working alongside the WADT as part of the In Your Community project across the South West. Seeing the tangible outcomes of this partnership reinforces the importance of Community investing in grassroots organisations that understand the unique needs and potential of their own communities.
The Weymouth Area Development Trust is a shining example of what can be achieved when vision meets collaboration. In the South West we look forward to seeing how their work continues to empower local people and drive positive change in the years ahead.
