Equality Networks

Community’s Equality Networks bring together members with shared experiences, identities and interests to build solidarity, influence union policy and drive positive change in workplaces and wider society.

The networks provide opportunities for members to connect, learn from one another, develop leadership skills, raise awareness of equality issues and ensure that diverse voices are represented across the union.

Through campaigning, events, training and peer support, the networks help create a stronger, more inclusive Community for all members. Our Equality Networks are:

  • Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) Network
  • Disabled Workers Network
  • LGBTQIA+ Network
  • Women’s Network
  • Young Workers Network (Under 30)

Community Equality Networks are open to members who identify with the network’s purpose, those who share relevant lived experiences, and allies who actively support the network’s objectives. We believe that meaningful inclusion is achieved when people come together to champion equality, dignity, respect and opportunity for every worker.

By getting involved in a network, members can share experiences, build supportive relationships, contribute to campaigns, develop confidence and skills, and help shape Community’s work on equality, diversity and inclusion. The networks play a vital role in ensuring that the lived experiences of our members inform the union’s priorities and strengthen our collective voice.

Our Equality Networks

Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) Network

Our BAME Network brings together members from diverse ethnic, cultural and migrant backgrounds, alongside allies committed to equality and inclusion. The network provides a safe space to share experiences, tackle racism and discrimination, celebrate diversity, and influence Community’s campaigns to ensure every worker is treated with dignity, respect and fairness.

Disabled Workers Network

The Disabled Workers Network builds on a proud legacy of disabled workers organising for equality and justice. Its roots lie in the National League of the Blind and Disabled (NLBD), founded in 1899 and recognised as one of the world’s oldest disabled people’s organisations. The NLBD led pioneering campaigns for employment rights, organised strikes and marches, and helped drive progress towards landmark disability legislation before becoming part of Community in 2000. Today, the network continues that tradition by championing accessibility, inclusion and equal opportunities for disabled workers across all sectors.

LGBTQIA+ Network

The LGBTQIA+ Network is a welcoming and inclusive space for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual and other gender and sexual diverse communities, as well as allies. The network promotes equality, challenges discrimination and supports members in creating workplaces where everyone can be themselves and thrive.

Women’s Network

The Women’s Network empowers women across Community to connect, support one another and champion gender equality in the workplace and beyond. Through campaigning, networking and collective action, the network works to challenge barriers, address issues such as pay inequality and workplace discrimination, and amplify women’s voices throughout the union.

Young Workers Network

The Young Workers Network gives members under 30 a platform to connect, develop leadership skills and shape the future of the union. The network campaigns on issues affecting younger workers, including fair pay, secure employment, training opportunities and workplace rights, ensuring the voices of young people are heard and valued.
