Warm Homes Plan welcomed

Community welcomes the launch of the government’s £15 billion Warm Homes Plan, which will deliver upgrades to 5 million homes.

The plan – which is set to lift a million families out of fuel poverty by 2030 – will include a record investment in domestic solar panels, insulation, batteries and heat pumps.

The government’s proposals will also increase the number of green energy jobs from 60,000 to 240,000 by the end of the decade, building on the UK’s status as one of the leading manufacturers of heating appliances. The plan includes a commitment to ensuring that at least 70% of heat pumps installed in the UK are made in the country.

Paul McKenna, Community’s National Secretary for Light Industries, said:

“The Warm Homes Plan demonstrates that our Labour government is serious about delivering on its promises to lower energy bills for consumers and insulate homes using green technology.

“Crucially for our members in the light industries sector, this plan will also lead to substantial investment in clean energy jobs across the country. Our members at companies like Vaillant are already at the cutting-edge of heat pump technology and are well-placed to help make this new national plan to futureproof homes a reality.

“Indeed, it was good to see the government’s plan make direct reference to our work with Vaillant on skills training for staff. This is exactly the kind of long-term investment in training for clean energy installers which will be absolutely crucial in ensuring that the Warm Homes Plan is a generational success.”
