Supporting under-privileged children through boxing

Community was pleased to approve a donation to Liam Forrest to support his work teaching younger people in Brighton how to box. Liam says:

I would like to thank Community for giving me the money to help build my business and work within the community. The money will go towards petrol, sparring, the costs of training, helping the young and underprivileged kids in my community and help me with my dream of becoming a professional boxer.

The donation will be used to provide boxing lessons for under-privileged children as ‘preventative intervention’, which is a well known technique used to give younger people structure, a positive path in life and prevent them from getting into trouble.

David Weeks, Regional Secretary for London and the South, says:

“Community is immensely proud to be able to support this vital cause. I have seen first-hand the positive affect this type of scheme has on under-privileged children and young adults in the local community.

Boxing has been widely used for bringing a sense of discipline and routine to otherwise chaotic lives, and Liam should be commended for using his personal experiences to support others. We can’t wait to see the positive change achieved through Liam’s work and made possible by this donation”

Community prides itself on being a union that is there for members all the time, not just at work. Through ‘In your community’ and our regional charity fund, we help our members and branches support local causes that matter to their communities.
