AI is rapidly reshaping financial services, from administration and customer service to risk management. As automated tools become part of everyday work, one question must remain central: how do we ensure innovation puts workers first?
Through our Fair Future for Finance campaign, we are addressing that challenge directly. We are pleased to announce that the Nationwide Group Staff Union (NGSU) has formally signed Community’s Responsible AI Charter.
NGSU’s partnership is an important milestone in our shared effort to ensure technological change across the sector is grounded in dignity, transparency and fairness.
By signing the charter, NGSU strengthens its role as a leading voice for ethical standards in financial services.
Reflecting on the importance of this shared commitment, Emma Clay, General Secretary of NGSU, said:
“NGSU is pleased to sign up to Community Union’s AI Charter, reinforcing our commitment that any use of AI in financial services is responsible and ethical. As technology evolves, it’s vital that innovation is guided by fairness, transparency and accountability — principles we are already actively championing in our ongoing conversations with Nationwide and others across the sector.”
Welcoming NGSU to the charter, Caroline Taylor, National Secretary for Finance at Community Union said:
“We are delighted to welcome NGSU to Community’s Responsible AI Charter. NGSU has consistently demonstrated strong leadership and an unwavering commitment to protecting its members in an evolving workplace. By backing our Fair Future for Finance campaign, NGSU is sending a powerful message across the financial sector: technological advancement must never come at the expense of worker dignity, fairness or job security.”
The integration of AI into financial services should not force a choice between technological progress and worker protection. When trade unions work together, we can help ensure innovation works for employees, not against them.
As the Fair Future for Finance campaign continues to grow, we look forward to working alongside NGSU to champion worker-led AI governance, push for comprehensive training and upskilling, and hold employers accountable across the sector.
