Responding to the launch of the government’s Parental Leave and Pay Review this week, Community’s Head of Equalities Jennifer Dean said:
“We welcome the government’s decision to launch a review into the parental leave and pay system. For too long, this system has failed to reflect the realities of modern family life. But now, at last, we have a government committed to implementing change for the benefit of children, working parents, and our members in the Early Years sector.
“The review’s focus on maternal health and wellbeing, boosting economic participation, and giving every child the best possible start in life, is not only timely, it’s essential. High-quality, flexible childcare that works for families is not a luxury; it is a necessity. And it’s encouraging to see this recognised at the heart of the government’s agenda.
“Again, this is an example of an ambitious Labour government delivering on its manifesto commitment to make work pay, and we stand ready to work with ministers to ensure that this review leads to wide-ranging changes that improve the lives of our members and their families.”
