HMP Peterborough signs our Women’s Health Charter

HMP Peterborough has shown its commitment to workplace equality by signing up to our Women’s Reproductive Health Charter. The Charter, which forms part of our SupportingHerTogether campaign, is asking employers to implement clear policies around issues including menstrual health and pregnancy loss.

Community’s Head of Equalities, Jennifer Dean, said:

“We are delighted that HMP Peterborough has demonstrated its commitment to the wellbeing of its employees by signing Community’s Women’s Reproductive Health Charter.

“Our charter, which forms part of the SupportingHerTogether campaign, is about tackling reproductive health issues in the workplace and breaking down outdated taboos so we can make conversations around reproductive health easier for everyone, and ensure employees have access to the right support at work when they need it.

“We look forward to working alongside HMP Peterborough to help deliver on the commitments outlined in our charter and hope many more of our good employers will sign up.”

Ralph Lubkowski, Director of Justice Services at HMP Peterborough, said:

“At HMP Peterborough, we recognise that women’s reproductive health is an important workplace wellbeing issue that can have a significant impact on colleagues’ health, confidence, attendance, and overall quality of life.

“As an employer, we want to create an environment where women feel supported, respected, and able to access the understanding and adjustments they may need throughout different stages of their reproductive health journey. Whether this relates to menstruation, fertility treatment, pregnancy, miscarriage, menopause, or other reproductive health concerns, these are not issues that should be overlooked or treated as taboo.

“By supporting the Supporting Her Together campaign, we are demonstrating our commitment to fostering an inclusive workplace culture where conversations about women’s health can take place openly and without stigma. We believe that when colleagues feel supported, they are better able to thrive both personally and professionally.

“This initiative aligns with our wider commitment to staff wellbeing, equality, and inclusion. We are proud to work alongside Community Union in raising awareness of these important issues and ensuring that women have access to the support and understanding they deserve.”

At Community, we recognise that women’s health is a trade union issue and one that requires our full attention. Employers who adopt this charter will help to create work environments where women feel they can thrive – not just survive.
