HMP Kilmarnock

Responding to news of the Scottish Prison Service’s takeover of HMP Kilmarnock, Steve Farrell, Community Union’s Regional Secretary for Scotland, said:

“Community Union as the long-standing recognised trade union of HMP Kilmarnock are committed to supporting our substantive membership post-transfer.

“It is important that our members, who to date have been responsible for one of the best-performing prisons in Scotland over recent years, continue to feel valued under the new employer. As such we have already been in contact with the Scottish Prison Service since the recent transfer to commence positive discussions as to how all our members Terms and Conditions are fully integrated and harmonised to that of all colleagues across the public Scottish Prison estate.”

Community is the union for justice and custodial sector workers, representing thousands of members whose work is vital to our justice system and to public safety. Our members work for a range of organisations in the sector. We represent workers at private prisons, secure immigration centres, young offender institutions, courts, in prisoner escorting and much more. We are a modern trade union, campaigning for a better working world.
